Hello all – thanks everyone for participating in #MindTheChat! I think this is going to be great for all of us. Just wanted to get all of the chat participants on an email to work out this coming Friday’s first chat. Ruth Margolis will be hosting the chat from the @MindtheGap_BBCA handle. Craig Young and Eileen Lee are handling things from @BritsinLA, and Derek Nisbet and Louise Gale will represent @BigAppleBrits. We’re in chats with a couple of other people who may be able to participate as well. I’m envisioning this as sort of a panel discussion moderated by @MindtheGap_BBCA, with some user questions banked ahead of time with our followers also throwing out questions in real time. I think we’ll work out any kinks in the first chat, but if anyone has any suggestions to make things run more smoothly, feel free to throw them out there.
The first chat will discuss practical ways of making life here easier and strategies to combat the isolation of being far from home. The hashtag for people to follow along is #MindTheChat. I’ve been tweeting things like “British #expats: what baffles you about the U.S.? Tell us using the #MindTheChat hashtag ahead of Fri’s chat at 1 pm ET.” I’ll be asking other questions to engage our followers up through Friday. Craig/Eileen and Derek/Louise, might you be able to do similar pushes on your platforms?
